Item/Description: Large Japanese porcelain cylindrical vase, Mid-Meiji Period, circa 1885-1900. Tall sleeve vase or umbrella stand, Satsuma earthenware. Finely decorated with an expansive polychrome landscape featuring a prominent gnarled pine, traditional pagodas, and a bridge against mist-shrouded mountains. Rendered in a palette of iron-red, green, and black enamels over a characteristic creamy, crackled glaze, the composition is framed by wide upper and lower registers of dense, Aka-e scrolling foliage and stylized clouds in deep rouge-de-fer (iron-red) with heavy kinrande style gold gilding.
